“Stress can be defined as any type of change that causes physical, emotional or psychological strain. Stress is your body’s response to anything that requires attention or action.”, – World Health Organization (WHO) declares.
When someone is in stress, the body’s nervous system controls breathing, the heart rate or vision changes etc. In a dangerous situation, when the organism needs more energy, little stress can be positive as it keeps us alert, motivated and ready to deal with dangerous situations.
It is important to note that experiencing stress is normal for the human body and all people go through it. The difference is how we react and respond to it.
There are some physical and mental symptoms of stress:
– Trouble sleeping
– Muscle tension
– Weak immune system
– Heart palpitations
– Stomach problems
– Panic attacks
– High blood pressure
– Anxiety or irritability
What can you do?
Some daily practices may help you prevent you from overwhelming stress:
– Meditation, yoga or other relaxing practices,
– balanced and healthy diet, daily exercises and normal sleep schedule,
– say no to additional tasks, when you feel you are busy, tired or feel out of energy for that,
– spend more time with the people who give you positive energy and calmness.
