INFERTILITY. ARE YOU CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT CAUSES FEMALE OR MALE INFERTILITY?

“Infertility is a disease of the male or female reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.” WHO

There are two types of infertility:primary and secondary. When a person has never gotten pregnant, this is primary infertility. Secondary infertility is when at least one prior pregnancy has been achieved.

Many factors can be the reason for infertility, in either the male or female reproductive systems. It is sometimes impossible to explain the causes of infertility.

Causes of male infertility may include:

– Abnormal sperm production or function,
– Problems with the delivery of sperm,
– Overexposure to certain environmental factors,

Causes of female infertility may include:

– Ovulation disorders,
– Uterine or cervical abnormalities,
– Fallopian tube damage or blockage,
– Endometriosis,
– Primary ovarian insufficiency (early menopause),
– Pelvic adhesions,

Smoking, excessive alcohol usage and obesity may also cause infertility
